It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Ada (Milligan) Oliver, affectionally known to loved ones as "Molly." Molly entered into rest peacefully at home on Thursday, November 17 at 88 years old.
Molly was born in New York City, New York to Lewis "Alec" and Nora Milligan. The family, which also included older sister Ruth, moved to California and settled in El Cerrito when Molly was 3. Younger brother Lewis "Wesley" was born a few years later. Molly was a 1952 graduate of El Cerrito High School. She then attended Samuel Merritt College, graduating with a Registered Nursing Certificate. Molly worked as a Registered Nurse at Seton's Medical Center (formerly Mary's Help Hospital) for 30 years. She worked in the emergency room and maternity ward during her tenure.
Molly married Kenneth "Ken" Harvey Oliver in 1955 at Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland, CA. The couple had 3 sons, Kenneth "Gary," William Michael "Bill," and John Patrick "Pat." Bill and Pat preceded her in death. Despite suffering unimaginable loss, Molly's resolve inspired those around her to still embrace life's passions to the fullest.
Upon her retirement from nursing in 1990, she embarked on one of her own passions: traveling. Molly and Ken traversed the globe, visiting countries on the continents of Asia, Australia, Europe, and South America. They took many cruises, cruising being a passion she inherited from her mother. Another passion that bought Molly great comfort was her love of Golden Retrievers. She owned 3 in her lifetime. Her 10-year-old faithful Golden Retriever Riley was by her side during her final days.
Molly is survived by son Gary (Deborah); brother Lewis "Wesley"; nieces Sharon (Paul), Kathy, and Jennifer (Howard), Lynette (Don), and Lori (Perry); nephews David (Deborah), Mark (Sheri), and Lenny; and many great nieces and nephews. Molly is proceeded in death by husband Ken; sons Bill and Pat; sister Ruth; niece Carol; brother-in-laws Leonard and Ronnie; and great nephew Ryan.
Services will be held at Chapel of the Highlands Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 30 at 10:30 a.m. followed by burial at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the following charitable organizations on Molly's behalf: Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA and Guide Dogs for the Blind.
