John “Rock” Perga died peacefully Aug. 17, 2016.
“He was loved by many and will be terribly missed.”
Born Nov. 22, 1950, John was raised in San Mateo and graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1968. A devoted music fan, John began playing in bands from the age of 14 with the Druids, Finders, Rockers and the Knockers. He became a driven audiophile, collecting recordings until the very end.
John lived in San Francisco where he raised his children David and Lucy. He also worked as a jeweler, earning the nickname John “Rock” all the while playing in power pop bands. He was also an avid photographer.
John entered a treatment program in the ’90s, overcoming his personal challenges, becoming a valued employee for Project 90 in San Mateo and Napa. John was a compassionate counselor and dedicated program director, leaving an impact not only on the people he served but the community as well.
He is survived by his son David, daughter Lucy, grandchildren De Andre, Enrique, Iden, wife Denise and stepdaughters Marie, Danielle and Ashley.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Sept. 3 at the Center for Spiritual Living, 1249 Coombs St., Napa.
