No word yet what officials will do to solve the teacher contract problem in the San Mateo-Foster City School District. Teacher representative Jim Remington said the union's waiting to see what the board does at its next meeting later this month.
The two sides were set to put the issue behind them last month when a last-minute wording "glitch" was noticed. The word "supplemental" shouldn't be in a sentence detailing retirement benefits, officials say - that could cost the district an additional $100,000 a year. The teachers' union maintains that the wording should stay.

Donations are still being accepted to buy textbooks for low-income students at Cañada College in Redwood City. Every semester, a large number of students at the community college are forced to drop out of school or reduce their class loads because they can't afford the required textbooks. Now both the Redwood City-San Mateo Chamber of Commerce and the Redwood Shores Neighborhood Association are asking their memberships for donations.
While students at most community colleges have trouble affording textbooks, the problem is amplified at Cañada because its students are mostly low-income, first-generation students who also work.
Donations should be sent to the San Mateo County Community Colleges Foundation, 3401 CSM Drive.
