With the filing period officially closed, including extensions allowed for certain districts, school board seats across the county are up for grabs, with many uncontested, this upcoming November election.
At the county level, four seats on the County Board of Education will be considered by voters. Incumbent Trustee Hugo Torres of Area 7 is the only uncontested race. In Area 4, incumbent Chelsea Bonini will defend her seat against educator and science writer Priya Hays. Mike O’Neill is running for Area 5 trustee seat against Maurice Goodman. Patricia Love will face Ester Adut, an attorney, for the County Board of Education Area 6 trustee seat.
For the San Mateo County Community College District Board, incumbents Wayne Lee and John Pimentel are unopposed in Trustee Area 3 and 5, respectively. Incumbent Lisa Petrides of Trustee Area 1 will defend her seat against educator and coach Keith Holden.
Incumbent Patricia Murray is running against Samuel Chetcuti for the Trustee Area A South San Francisco Unified School District School Board seat. For Trustee Area B, Amy Lam is running unopposed.
The San Mateo Union High School District will likely see the same board as it has the past two years, with incumbents Greg Land and Ligia Andrade Zúñiga running again in their respective trustee areas unopposed.
Incumbent Rich Ginn is running unopposed for the Sequoia Union High School District Trustee Area C seat. Three are vying for the Trustee Area B seat — principal, teacher and parent Mary Beth Thompson, District Student Trustee Jacob Yuryev, and community volunteer Daniel Torunian. For the SUHSD Trustee Area E seat, Tonga Victoria Afuhaamango, Maria Cruz and Jon Bryant are seeking the seat.
With newly defined trustee areas in Belmont-Redwood Shores School District. Anne Dang is running for Trustee Area 2, and Shelley Taang is running in Trustee Area 4, both unopposed.
In the Burlingame School District, all trustee races are unopposed. Chaitanya Bhuskuyte is running for Area 2 seat, Katie Jay is running for Area 3, and Nicole Mustafa is running for Area 5.
The Millbrae School District will also see a similar board, with incumbents Maggie Musa and Frank Barbaro seeking reelection and Claire Beltrami looking to continue serving for a short term.
Mike Wells, incumbent for Area 4 in the Redwood City School District, is running unopposed. For Trustee Area 1, Jennifer Ng Kwing King is running. The district also has an open seat in Trustee Area 3 that no one is seeking, leaving the current school board to appoint the next term trustee.
Incumbent trustee Jennifer Blanco of the San Bruno Park School District will defend her seat in Area 1 against Kinsley Ma. In Area 4, Caroline Tambe is running unopposed.
In the only at-large election, incumbents Sarah John Kinahan and Tracy Park are seeking reelection, unopposed, to the San Carlo School District Board of Trustees.
In the San Mateo-Foster City School District, incumbents Maggie Trinh of Area 4 and Gene Kim of Area 5 are running again, unopposed. For Trustee Area 3, Christine Rodriguez Laskowski is seeking the seat, unopposed.
