After more than five months, the 79-year-old hiker first reported missing May 1 while hiking along the Lost Trail at Windy Hill Open Space Preserve is still missing, the San Mateo County Sheriffās Office said.Ā Ā
Margaret āElaineā McKinley was originally separated from her family while hiking, and despite āextensive and exhaustive effortsā to find her ā including 900 specialized search and rescue volunteers, drones and specialized K-9s ā there have still been no confirmed sightings, a press release from the Sheriffās Office said.Ā
āWe continue to keep Elaineās family and loved ones in our thoughts and prayers and hope to one day be able to provide closure for all,ā Sheriff Christina Corpus said in the press release.Ā
There was an extensive search period for six days after McKinley went missing, the press release said, after which point efforts entered the limited continuous search phase.Ā
That phase, which consists of period searches in the preserve and training activities in the area, is still ongoing.
