BART riders traveling between Millbrae, San Bruno, and San Francisco International Airport will face evening delays as construction enters a new phase to upgrade the system’s train control technology, according to BART officials.
Beginning at 7:30 p.m. on most Sunday through Thursday nights, trains will operate at reduced speeds between Millbrae, SFO, and San Bruno stations, causing delays of about five to seven minutes, a press release issued Friday noted.
In addition, there will be no train service between Millbrae and SFO from 9 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on those nights to allow crews to set up work equipment. Riders can still reach SFO via the Yellow Line from San Francisco and the East Bay, BART said.
Several late-evening shuttle trains between Millbrae and SFO will be canceled, and BART said its Trip Planner will be updated weekly to reflect when work is scheduled.
The service impacts are expected to continue through summer 2026.
The construction is part of BART’s effort to replace its aging train control system with a modern communications-based train control system, which is expected to allow trains to run closer together and eventually increase Transbay capacity.
