Gloria Molina, a groundbreaking Chicana leader in state and local California politics for more than 30 years, has died at age 74. Molina's family says she died Sunday evening in Los Angeles after a three-year battle with cancer. A Democrat, Molina was the first Latina elected to the state Assembly, the Los Angeles City Council and the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. Molina revealed her terminal cancer in a Facebook post in March, saying she felt fortunate and not sad. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass says Molina was a force for unapologetic good and transformational change in Los Angeles.
