Wondering what’s happening on El Camino Real? You’re invited to a community meeting about the master plan for transforming the Burlingame section of El Camino Real on Thursday, March 5, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Burlingame Community Center, 850 Burlingame Ave. in Burlingame. Admission is free, but pre-registration is requested at https://tinyurl.com/ElCaminoMeet.
Presented by the Citizens Environmental Council and supported by the City of Burlingame, this program will feature presentations by Mayor Michael Brownrigg, representatives from the California Department of Transportation and Jennifer Pfaff, president of the Burlingame Historical Society. Burlingame city staff will also be available, and PG&E has been invited to attend. There will be ample time for questions.
Construction began in January on the three-year project, which will improve drainage, reconstruct sidewalks to facilitate safe pedestrian access, repave the roadway, underground overhead power lines, and replant more trees than are removed along El Camino Real between Millbrae and San Mateo.
“This is a once-in-a-century project to rebuild El Camino, making it safer for pedestrians, motorists and residents while preserving its historic and unique character,” said Mayor Michael Brownrigg. “But a project of this scale also poses challenges, which we are doing our best to address. Come share your concerns and suggestions and help us get it right.”
