Nestled amidst the salt marshes of San Francisco Bay, Foster City welcomes many travelers and is a safe and outdoorsy place to raise a family. But often when you live in an area you only superficially know the hotels in your region. Maybe when guests are coming to town, or you’re looking for a venue for a special event, then you might explore some spots nearby. Well, the Crowne Plaza Foster City is one of those gems you need to consider. Family owned, the property is more than a standout hotel, it’s a destination for foodies and a prime setting for events, parties and special occasions.
353 rooms, 3 restaurants, a nightclub and 16,000 square feet of banquet space makes the Crowne Plaza a go-to option for brunch, conferences, private meetings, weddings, bar and bat-mitzvahs, quinceañeras or family reunions. Easy access from the US-101 and CA-92E, ample parking, and when you walk into the lobby you’ll find an inviting open atrium and lovely touches like fruit infused water to welcome you. Festive floral arrangements -- and particularly striking drought resistant succulent plant table displays, are a nod to the hotel’s attention to detail and environmental awareness. The staff is warm and helpful, I happened to ask about the current World Cup scores when ordering a coffee and had a congenial chat with two servers from Mexico and Peru; two teams with squads competing in Russia this year.
The Crowne Plaza Foster City boasts three formidable eateries and a stellar night club. In the atrium is the ‘chit-chat’ area, open in the afternoons for appetizers and cocktails. Palm trees encircle the comfy seats and offer a welcome sense of greenery to accompany the soothing fountain sounds.

The Cafe Florian serves breakfast, lunch dinner and is known for its brunches and Sunday buffets. Brunch prix-fixe includes mimosas, prime rib, crab, smoked salmon and chef Oscar Cristino’s legendary homemade sausages. Chef Oscar spoke of his constantly changing menu, and how his years of work -- in a variety of different establishments -- have all come together perfectly at the Crowne Plaza. Dedicated to local sourcing and a can-do spirit, accommodating a variety of ethnic groups, palates and diets he says ‘we make it happen’ and he has been focused recently on developing plant-based vegetarian and vegan repertoire. Bathed in gorgeous atrium light, you can see why the venue and fare attract repeat customers for lavish Sunday brunches as well as special event offerings for Mother’s Day, Easter, Father’s Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The Clubhouse Bistro is more than a sports bar. There are 27 screens, but you will also delight in a wood fired pizza oven and a variety private nooks and cozy corners tucked away from the boisterous sports vibe to share with friends, family and colleagues. These can be reserved at clubhousebistro.com. The menu is varied, featuring Italian, Mexican and Asian favorites as well as San Francisco Clam Chowder: potato, thyme, clams, scallion, sourdough bread bowl. Lucky to be home to quite a few successful sports teams, NFL Sundays, MLB, NHL, the current World Cup soccer tournament and of course the Warriors great dynasty draws many to this happening spot. The focus on sports featured menu items, made to order pizza and plentiful cocktails and beer add to the appeal. During the week, the Clubhouse opens at 4pm and on weekends at noon. Happy Hour is from 4-6pm and the Clubhouse closes at midnight, 2am Saturday and Sunday when you can move over to the Night Club.
If you’re ready for some nightlife on the Peninsula the Clubhouse Bistro Night Club is a popular spot with DJ, dancing and bottle service. The club radiates an upscale club atmosphere with a laid-back, loungy party vibe. It’s an attractive venue for private parties and with deep discounts on weekend room rates, you might even choose to stay over; nothing like a dip in the pool and sumptuous brunch to augment a night of partying. The New Year’s Eve party is ‘off the hook’ and attracts many locals.
The Tokyo Village Japanese sushi restaurant, on the premises, rounds out the food options. Authentic and inviting, you can choose from a variety of rolls and entrees. There’s a Victoria’s Secret roll made with spicy tuna, a special Crowne Plaza roll made with mouth watering wagyu beef and the scrumptious Goma Tuna Tataki -- a plate of black sesame encrusted tuna seared! All made even more delectable with a nice hot or cold sake and/ or a bottle of Japanese beer.
If you are looking to host a big special event, the banquet room can seat up to 500. Festooned with ‘Chihuly chip’ lighting decorations (glass blown ornaments that look like fancy potato chips in the style of the famous glass sculptor Dale Chihuly) the space and catering services are ideal for weddings, anniversaries, corporate parties and more. Whether it be a kosher bar or bat mitzvah, a Chinese wedding or a quinceañera fiesta, the hotel and catering staff have the diversity of experience, consistency of personnel, team rhythm and creativity to make your event special. There are break out rooms and plenty of space to feel expansive and comfortable.
Think outside the box and you’ll find a variety of local options for family outings, business meetings or that special event. From catered celebrations, to affordable pampering staycations, or a fabulous Sunday brunch spot, the Crowne Plaza Foster City is an attractive option.
