Erika Kirk, the widow of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk and current CEO of the conservative youth group, endorsed the potential presidential bid of Vice President JD Vance in the 2028 election. Erika Kirk promised to support President Donald Trump's efforts to maintain GOP-control of Congress and vowed to "get my husband's friend JD Vance elected" in the 2028 presidential election. The late Kirk and Vance were close friends.

On Nov. 26, 2008, teams of heavily armed militants from the terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba stormed luxury hotels, a popular restaurant and a crowded train station in Mumbai, India, leaving at least 175 people dead (including nine of the attackers) in a rampage spanning four days.

Democratic Gov. Josh Green of Hawaii predicts Americans will want a peacemaking leader by 2028. He says the "hand to hand combat" of partisan politics will struggle after President Donald Trump's second term. Green, a moderate, worries Gov. Gavin Newsom, an early frontrunner, may be seen as "a radical from California." He believes Newsom needs to adopt more conciliatory rhetoric. Green hopes both parties nominate candidates committed to healing the partisan divide. He mentions Democratic Govs. Wes Moore and Josh Shapiro, and Republican Gov. Spencer Cox as potential leaders. Green is open to running himself but prefers supporting someone else.

Rep. Eric Swalwell, a Democrat who served as a House manager in President Donald Trump's 2021 impeachment trial, has launched his bid for California governor. Swalwell highlighted his desire help Californians prosper as he announced his candidacy on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" on Thursday night. Swalwell said California "needs a fighter and a protector" to bring prices down and lift wages. He also touched on his clashes with Trump, saying he was ready "to bring this fight home." More than a half dozen Democrats and two Republicans are competing in an all-party June primary. The top two vote-getters advance to a November general election to succeed term-limited Gov. Gavin Newsom.

On Nov. 8, 2000, a statewide recount began in Florida, which emerged as critical in deciding the winner of the 2000 presidential election between Republican George W. Bush and Democratic Vice President Al Gore. The recount would officially end on Dec. 12 upon orders from the U.S. Supreme Court, delivering Florida's electoral votes and the presidency to Bush.

On Nov. 6, 1860, former Illinois congressman Abraham Lincoln of the Republican Party was elected president of the United States as he defeated John Breckinridge, John Bell and Stephen Douglas.

On Nov. 5, 1872, suffragist Susan B. Anthony defied the law by casting a vote in the presidential election; she was later arrested and charged with "knowingly voting without having a lawful right to vote." Found guilty at trial, she was fined $100, which she refused to pay.
