Sanchez Art Center presents Archana Horsting, Angle of Repose

Sanchez Art Center, Pacifica—Archana Horsting, Angle of Repose, a solo exhibition, will open in the Main Gallery at Sanchez Art Center on Friday, July 10, 2026, with an evening reception from 7 – 9 pm.  Live music will add to the enjoyment of the evening.   

Angle of Repose, brings forward the artists lifelong interest in landscape and architecture, with the use of an engineering term.  An “angle of repose” according to Wikipedia, is the “steepest angle of descent or dip relative to the horizontal plane on which the material can be piled without slumping”.  Horsting shares that this is also a personal metaphor.  “Angles are critical in my work.  I look for the angles that create dynamism, but ultimately come to rest in a vibrant balancing act”.  She further notes that repose is a word of many meanings and associations, including rest and harmony.  And this is just the case with the mostly black and white works, composed in oil stick on paper, that invite the viewer to linger, taking in the depth, engaging with the shapes, and developing a personal interpretation and  connection with each piece. 

Opening concurrently, the East Gallery is presenting Balancing Act, at the waters edge, in partnership with the Pacifica Land Trust.  A community gathering and engagement event, reflecting on opportunities for nature based solutions along Pacifica’s coastline, will be held on Sun, Jul 19, 2:30 – 4:30 pm.  In the West Gallery, members of the Art Guild of Pacifica will participate in a group show titled Strangely Familiar. 

On the last day of all the exhibitions, Sunday, Aug 9, the closing program will begin at 3:30 pm with a conversation in the Main Gallery with artist Archana Horsting and SAC Curatorial Director Alida Bray.  Sanchez Art Center is located at 1220 Linda Mar Blvd, Pacifica, CA. Gallery hours are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 1 to 5 pm, and by appointment, during exhibits (except opening nights).
