Redwood City, CA - Redwood Symphony celebrates 40 adventurous years of redefining what a community orchestra can be. Founded in 1985 by Maestro Eric Kujawsky, Redwood Symphony has become known for its daring programming, technical excellence, and commitment to both classical tradition and the future of orchestral music.

The evening opens with Emmanuel Chabrier’s lively España, a radiant tour through the regions of Spain filled with rhythm, color, and irresistible charm. Next, violinist Karen Bentley Pollick, a Palo Alto native and longtime friend of the Symphony, joins the orchestra for Tchaikovsky’s beloved Violin Concerto—a work of soaring lyricism and virtuosic brilliance.

Redwood Symphony then propels audiences into the 21st century with Mason Bates’ electrifying Alternative Energy. This four-movement symphony explores a futuristic sound world where electronica meets orchestra—complete with percussion parts played on car parts. For this special occasion, the Symphony is thrilled to welcome Mason Bates himself as guest artist on electronica.

“I founded Redwood Symphony in October 1985, and here I am—forty years later—looking forward to many more years with my dear friends and colleagues,” says Maestro Kujawsky. “This program brings together everything I love about orchestral music: the joy of Chabrier, the emotional power of Tchaikovsky, and the forward-looking innovation of Mason Bates.”

Redwood Symphony continues to take the road less traveled—proving that a community orchestra can be both progressive and world-class. Join us in celebrating four decades of musical daring, community spirit, and creative excellence.
