“Destination Superbloom” marks the 14th year that Cara Kozik has lived in Pacifica. She is continually inspired by the outlook from her kitchen window onto Mori Point, known for its electric yellow blanket of wildflowers in spring. Her Coastside is a dreamland in costume.

Kozik’s brushwork and vibrant palette lean toward graphic abstraction rather than traditional atmospheric realism, a contemporary take on the historic tradition of plein air.

Superblooms have been more intense in recent years due to more severe weather patterns caused by climate change, leading to less frequent but more spectacular blooms. Intense superblooms require a succession of dry years to accumulate seeds, followed by extreme rainfall.

Cara Kozik’s professional background is textile design and animation. She received her B.F.A. in Illustration and Design from the College of Creative Studies in Detroit, and her M.A. in Visual Development from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
