Studio Shop Gallery presents KIN, the first solo exhibition of Canadian artist Steven Spazuk at our gallery. Internationally recognized as the "fire painter," Spazuk has spent over two decades mastering the ancient technique of fumage — the art of painting with controlled flame and carbon soot.

Through precise application of fire to prepared canvases, Spazuk transforms residual carbon into luminous pigment, creating remarkably detailed figures from delicate, ephemeral marks. His process embodies a profound paradox: turning destruction into creation, finding beauty in what fire leaves behind.

In KIN, Spazuk seamlessly merges human and animal forms, revealing the deep interconnectedness of all living beings. The title speaks to belonging and re-membrance — not merely recalling our connection to nature, but actively reassembling and reclaiming our place within the natural world. These contemplative works explore the fragility and resilience of ecosystems while celebrating the subtle harmony between humanity and nature.

Join us for the opening reception on Friday, October 10th, 5-7 PM.

Steven Spazuk will present a special artist talk at 6:15 PM. Experience an evening of art, meaningful conversation, and the opportunity to meet this remarkable artist.
