Indonesia is training troops for a new peacekeeping force in Gaza, backing a key part of President Donald Trump's postwar plan. Earlier this week, the army chief said training has started even though Indonesia has no clear guidance yet. Officials now talk about sending 5,000 to 8,000 troops, focusing on engineering and medical units. Indonesia has long U.N. peacekeeping experience and has backed Gaza aid. But many at home doubt the plan, wondering who will pay the troops and how they will be used. An online petition also calls for Indonesia to reverse its decision to join Trump's Board of Peace, questioning its legitimacy.

Residents in eastern Congo's largest city of Goma are fleeing after Rwanda-backed rebels claimed to have captured the regional hub from Congolese forces. Fighting has escalated in recent days despite calls from the U.N. Security Council for the insurgents to withdraw. Gunshots rang out across Goma overnight before dozens of rebels in military uniform early Monday morning marched into the capital of North Kivu province, which sits on the border with Rwanda. The U.N. Security Council called on the M23 rebels to immediately reverse advances. Other countries including the United States, United Kingdom and France have also condemned the rebel push.
The Lebanese army says that an Israeli airstrike killed two of its soldiers and wounded three others, an incident that further entangled Lebanon's official army in the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah militants in Lebanon. As Israel escalates its campaign against Hezbollah with waves of heavy airstrikes across Lebanon and a ground invasion at the border, Lebanese troops have increasingly found themselves in the crossfire. Friday's strike came hours after Israeli troops fired on the headquarters of United Nations peacekeepers in southern Lebanon, injuring two peacekeepers for the second time in as many days.
