The natural world has provided poets with inspiration for centuries, and it continues to inspire us today. In this lively, hands-on workshop, participants will have the opportunity to put their own thoughts on paper in the form of a poem. We will begin by considering some approaches to capturing nature's dynamism and energy and then write together to a specific prompt. Please bring a good old-fashioned pen or pencil, an open mind, and a willingness to experiment.

From 2014- 2016, Caroline Goodwin served as the first Poet Laureate of San Mateo County. A former Wallace Stegner Fellow in poetry at Stanford, she is the author of five books, most recently Matanuska (Aquifer Press, Wales, UK, 2022). She holds a bachelor's degree in biology and an MFA in poetry and teaches creative writing at Stanford Continuing Studies.

This workshop is presented by Atherton Library in partnership with the San Mateo County Office of Arts and Culture and Paloma Press.

Registration is encouraged, but it is not required.
