The Sixties counterculture associated with San Francisco actually began a decade before, on the Peninsula. Join Eric Dentler as he describes San Mateo's important role during this era including a three-day battle of the bands that drew 190,000 teens to the San Mateo Fairgrounds, the densely packed El Camino Real entertainment zone, and the College of San Mateo which trained many musicians who would go on to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Eric Dentler is a technology veteran who formed his first band during the dot-com era. After filming folk legend Joan Baez performing at a rally outside the Redwood City Courthouse, it sparked a lasting interest in the counterculture movement in him. He now volunteers with the Belmont Historical Society.
