RAW INSPIRATION: MARK ASHWORTH

Sanchez Art Center, Pacifica—Raw Inspiration: Mark Ashworth, will open in the Main Gallery at Sanchez Art Center on Friday, May 29, 2026, with an evening reception from 7 – 9 pm.  Live music will be provided. 

The exhibition of works created between 2014 – 2025, feature contemporary abstract paintings that capture a spontaneous and intuitive process with color, shapes, and lines.  Ashworth notes, “My physical conversation with the canvas results in a fusion of stratum, primordial images, and random shapes, emphasizing the relationships between colors. Hints of botanical imagery and architecture add layers of depth to these modernism pieces.”

O’Say Can You See, the Soul of Our Nation, a juried exhibition in partnership with Citizen Joy, will be presented in the East Gallery.  On July 4, 2026, America will stand before the world. Beyond the fireworks, will we see the country collapsing under the pressure of growing authoritarianism that is intentionally fueling division and resentment — or — a democratic republic renewed with courage and optimism?  The artworks in the exhibition showcase a determination to create a future together that’s worthy of the country’s hopes and dreams.  A community event will be held on Sun, June 14 (Flag Day).  Beginning at 2:00 pm, gallery visitors can participate in a hands-on activity, “Postcards From the Future”; a juror’s talk and Artists Gallery Walk will begin at 3:00 pm.  In the West Gallery, members of the Art Guild of Pacifica will participate in a group show titled Frame of Mind. 

On the last day of all the exhibitions, Sunday, June 28, the closing program will begin at 3:30 pm with a conversation in the Main Gallery with artist Mark Ashworth and SAC Curatorial Director Alida Bray.  Sanchez Art Center is located at 1220 Linda Mar Blvd, Pacifica, CA. Gallery hours are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 1 to 5 pm, and by appointment, during exhibits (except opening nights).
