The San Mateo County Astronomical Society will be holding a General Meeting at 7pm and lecture at 8pm at CSM. All are welcomed. The General Meeting will be in the Science Building #36, in the Integrated Science Center Room, room 110, where we'll socialize for a bit with sodas and pizza and then share some information about the Society. Then we'll move into the Planetarium at 8pm for a presentation. Presenters change monthly. We request RSVPs if you'd like to attend to be sure there's plenty of food for everyone.

October's presenter is Dr. Thomas Greene, an astrophysicist in the Space Science and Astrobiology Division at NASA's Ames Research Center. Find out how the James Webb Space Telescope is being used to discover and characterize exoplanets in our galaxy. He's currently leading projects studying exoplanets and protostars with JWST and will discuss his observational studies of exoplanets and young stars. Greene is also a co-investigator on the Near-InfraRed Camera and Mid-Infrared Instruments of JWST and serves on the JWST Users Committee. He develops astronomical technologies and instrumentation. He served as the director of the Ames Center for Exoplanet Studies, Project Scientist of the SOFIA mission and Chief of the Astrophysics Branch. .
