As a Burmese Buddhist parent, a Novitiation Ceremony, known as Shinbyu, is a crucial Theravada Buddhist rite of passage where boys under 20 temporarily enter a monastery as novices.  It is a lavish, often community-wide celebration involving parades, traditional costumes, head-shaving, and receiving robes, symbolizing the Buddha's journey. Please see this link to see how the ceremony was valued in our community.  https://youtu.be/utymnjoW53M?si=i4T6FbPDLY3OQ5iz or you can search in youtube "shinbyu ceremony parade" for more information.

We would like to invite and inform the Half Moon Bay Community to come and watch the downtown parade on June 20th,2026. Saturday.

Please see attached Press Release for your reference.

Hope we can spread the word and get some news out for this first ever Novitiation Ceremony event for Bay Area Burmese- Americans.
