Redwood Symphony presents a unique, must-see musical event: the West Coast premiere of long-time Stephen Sondheim orchestrator Jonathan Tunick’s brand new arrangement of “A Little Night Music,” one of the composer's most popular musicals. This semi-staged concert performance brings together the power of a full symphony orchestra with a dazzling cast of accomplished singing actors for two nights only - Friday, May 29, and Saturday, May 30, at Cañada College Main Theater.
The singers are under the direction of Sara Kannen Dean, who boasts an impressive resume as Artistic Director at The Pear Theatre and Executive Director for South Bay Musical Theatre.
Stephen Sondheim, widely regarded as one of the world’s greatest composer-lyricists, revolutionized musical theater with works like “Sweeney Todd,” “Company,” and “Into the Woods.” Winner of eight Tony Awards, an Oscar, eight Grammys, and a Pulitzer Prize, Sondheim’s influence is felt across the globe, and this concert is a rare opportunity to experience his genius in a stunning orchestral setting. "A Little Night Music" is one of the composer's most popular shows, based on the Ingmar Bergman film "Smiles of a Summer Night," which was in turn based on Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream."
