California Attorney General Rob Bonta's wife will lead a legislative subcommittee that oversees his budget. KCRA reports Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon chose Assemblymember Mia Bonta to lead a subcommittee that oversees public safety spending. That includes the California Department of Justice led by the attorney general. Rendon said lawmakers do not set Rob Bonta's salary or benefits. He said Mia Bonta will continue to be independent and unbiased. University of Pacific law professor Mary-Beth Moylan said it's not illegal for Mia Bonta to lead the subcommittee. But Bob Stern, the former general counsel for the California Fair Political Practices Commission, said it should raise eyebrows.
