Hospital officials say an Israeli strike in Gaza hit a tent housing displaced people, killing a 5-year-old girl and her uncle. The strike took place in the Muwasi area of Khan Younis, wounding two other children. The Israeli Defense Forces said on social media it targeted a Hamas militant planning an imminent attack. It was unclear if this referred to the tent strike. The Gaza Health Ministry reported over 400 deaths in Gaza since an October ceasefire began. The overall Palestinian death toll from the Israel-Hamas war has risen to at least 71,388, with 171,269 wounded.

Israeli ground troops for the first time have pushed into areas of a central Gaza city where several aid groups are based. An Israeli military official on Monday confirmed the incursion that appears to be the latest effort to carve up the Palestinian territory with military corridors. Deir al-Balah is the only Gaza city that has not seen major ground operations or suffered widespread devastation in 21 months of war. That has led to speculation that the Hamas militant group holds large numbers of hostages there. The main group representing hostages' families said it was "shocked and alarmed" by the incursion.
Hospital officials say Israeli strikes around Gaza killed more than 30 Palestinians, more than half of them women and children. One strike on Monday hit next to a charity kitchen distributing meals to displaced people. Palestinians in Gaza have come to rely more on such kitchens as food supplies dwindle under Israel's monthlong ban on goods entering the territory. Another strike hit a news media tent, killing a local reporter and one other person and wounding six other journalists. The Israeli military says the strike targeted a man whom it identified as a Hamas militant posing as a journalist.
