Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei says his country has delivered a "slap to America's face" with its strike on an American base in Qatar and warned against any further U.S. attacks on Iran. The speech Thursday marked Khamenei's first public comments since a ceasefire was declared in the war with Israel. American forces hit three Iranian nuclear facilities with bunker-buster bombs and cruise missiles Sunday, inserting the United States into the Israel-Iran war. Iran retaliated Monday with a missile attack on the U.S. base in Qatar, which caused no casualties.

A fragile ceasefire between Iran and Israel appears to be holding. The deal initially faltered, and U.S. President Donald Trump expressed frustration Tuesday with both sides, saying they have fought "for so long and so hard" that they do not know what they are doing. Israel had earlier accused Iran of launching missiles into its airspace after the truce was supposed to take effect. The Iranian military denied firing on Israel, but explosions boomed and sirens sounded across northern Israel in the morning. An Israeli military official said two Iranian missiles were intercepted.

Iran launched a limited missile attack on a U.S. military base in Qatar, retaliating for the American bombing of its nuclear sites but indicating it was prepared to step back from escalating tensions in the volatile region. U.S. officials reported no casualties. Qatar condemned the attack Monday on Al Udeid Air Base attack, but said it successfully intercepted the short- and medium-range ballistic missiles. Iran said the attack matched the number of bombs dropped by the United States on Iranian nuclear sites over the weekend. Iran also said it targeted the base because it was outside of populated areas. Those comments suggested Iran wanted to de-escalate with the United States.

Hezbollah has fired another barrage of rockets into Israel, and the militant group's acting leader vows to keep up pressure that has forced thousands of Israelis from their homes near the Lebanese border. The Israeli military says it sent more ground troops into southern Lebanon on Tuesday, and that a senior Hezbollah commander was killed in an airstrike. Dozens of rockets fired by Hezbollah were aimed as far south as Haifa, and the Israeli government warned residents to the north of the coastal city to limit activities. The Israeli military says Hezbollah launched more than 170 rockets across the border.
