Celebrate the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Legion of Honor in San Francisco. Volunteer docent Virginia Ernster will tell the fascinating story of Alma de Bretteville Spreckels and her vision to build a museum to showcase French art. Dedicated to the California men who died in France during World War I, the museum was modeled after the Legion of Honor in Paris. By using historic images, the talk will highlight some of the building’s architectural features as well as renovations undertaken over the past 100 years. Hear about the museum’s inaugural ceremonies of 1924 and the art objects that were on display during opening day.  This event will be in the Oak Room at the San Mateo Main Library
