Amateur radio operators provide essential communications between local communities and the County’s emergency service personnel during emergencies.
As an integral part of our training, every June the Half Moon Bay Amateur Radio Club (HMBARC) sets up a collection of off-grid emergency radios and participates in the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) Field Day.  Field Day is a two-day national event during which we contact other radio operators all over the United States and Canada and demonstrate our ability to operate radio gear in abnormal situations and less than optimal conditions.
We welcome visitors of all ages!  Those who attend on Saturday afternoon will be able to participate in a significant feature of the Club’s 2026 Field Day – a “fox hunt”.  You will have the opportunity to locate a hidden radio signal by listening for its transmission using a handheld radio. Please come by at 1:00 PM for rules and instructions. The fox hunt will begin at 1:30 PM.  This activity allows visitors with no training, and amateur radio operators alike, to use club provided radio equipment to “find the fox”.   There will a prize for the winner, snacks, and loads of fun!
