Menlo 40, Eastside Prep 34
The Lady Knights (1-0 WBAL Foothill, 12-1 overall) trailed in the fourth quarter, but sophomore point guard Avery Lee corralled her squad for a 16-7 fourth-quarter run as Menlo earned its first victory over Eastside College Prep-Palo Alto (1-1, 6-6) since 2016. Lee scored 19 points, eight of them coming in the final period.
Palo Alto 44, Carlmont 35
Evelyn Gordi netted 16 points but it was not enough. The Lady Scots (9-3 overall) could not contain powerhouse Palo Alto, as the Vikings (9-2) were led by junior guard Annika Shah’s 28 points. After several lead changes through the first half, Paly went on a 16-7 run in the third quarter to seal the victory. Junior guard Erica Mendiola added eight points for Carlmont. The loss snaps a seven-game winning streak for the Scots.
Windsor 39, Half Moon Bay 37
Trailing 39-29 with 2:13 to play, the Lady Cougars (4-6 overall) cut the deficit to 2 by could not overcome Windsor as both teams went scoreless over the final minute. HMB closed the gap as sophomore Genevieve Belmonte hit back-to-back 3-pointers, and senior Mailie Bowers added a pair of free throws.

Carlmont 53, Santa Clara 35
The Scots went on an 18-4 second-quarter run and dispatched Santa Clara to up their road record to 8-2 this season. Senior center Ben Ledwith scored a team-high 15 points, while senior point guard Sho Takahashi added 11. In matching its lowest opponent point total of the year, Carlmont was led defensively by senior forward Jake Kennedy who totaled a career-high five steals.
Menlo 68, Pinewood 22
The Knights (2-0 WBAL, 8-2 overall) enjoyed a balanced night with 12 different players finding the basket to earn their second straight win to open West Bay Athletic League play. Junior guard Justin Sellers led Menlo with nine points, and added seven rebounds and three steals. Seniors Sam Fortenbaugh and Nate Solomon each added eight, as Pinewood (0-2, 8-4) was held to single-digit scoring in every quarter.
Terra Nova 50, Fremont 44
The Tigers (9-4 overall) got back in the win column by virtue of a strong second half at home against Fremont-Sunnyvale (5-7). Fremont rode the hot hand of Yuval Danino, who hit six 3-pointers to score a game-high 18 points. With the game deadlocked 23-23 at halftime, Terra Nova got 12 second-half points from Jordan Salgado to power to victory. Salgado finished with a team-high 14 points, and Jared Julian added 10.
Half Moon Bay 57, Capuchino 43
Capuchino went on a late run, hitting five 3-pointers to close a deficit to 48-41 in the fourth quarter. But Half Moon Bay (7-5 overall) held on in non-league action, paced by Mykiola Ediger’s game-high 25 points on 12-of-19 shooting. Ben McKnight added 14, and Sone Syme 10 for the Cougars. Junior Patrick Volkman paced the Mustangs (4-9) with 12 points.

Lady Bears takes second in Napa
Menlo-Atherton took two individual silvers in earning second place in the team competition at the Napa Valley Classic Girls’ Wrestling Tournament. Abby Ericson and Lauren McDonnell each took second place individually, while Evelyn Calhoun and Anna Smith each medaled with fourth-place finishes. The Bears totaled 21 pins on the day en route to the second-place finish out of 139 teams.

Cougars take seventh in Cupertino
Half Moon Bay scored two individual championships as the team racked up 97 points to take seventh place overall at the Cupertino Bianchini Tournament. Cade Duncan (172s) and Caspian Grabowski (285s) topped the podium in their respective weight classes, each running the table through three-match brackets. Eddy Lopez also medaled at 172s, making his first varsity podium with a fourth-place finish. Fernando Diaz-Marquez (115s) earned his fifth medal in five tournaments with a fifth-place finish.

Menlo 6, University-SF 0
Cate Cassani and Sophie Jones scored two goals apiece as Menlo (8-1) finished out its preseason, non-league slate with a big, shutout win in San Francisco. Katie Aufricht added a goal, and Jones assisted on an Alexa Thomases score. The Lady Knights open West Bay Athletic League play Thursday at home against Notre Dame-Belmont at 2:30 p.m.

Boys’ soccer
Menlo 4, Santa Cruz 1
Connor Nelson scored in the 10th minute and Ben Lasky went on to add an assist and two goals as the Knights (7-1-1) powered past Santa Cruz to match their best winning streak of the year with their third straight victory. Nelson converted on an assist from sophomore Tor Micaelian early in the first half. Then just before halftime, Menlo scored twice more, first on a Lasky assist to junior Aaron Morgan, then on a Lasky goal. The senior added his second score after the break on an assist by senior Max Colowick.

Half Moon Bay 54, Mercy-SF 43
The Lady Cougars (4-5 overall) rallied back from a 19-10 deficit after the first quarter, dominating with a 30-3 run to get back in the win column after a two-game losing streak. Freshman Abby Kennedy went for a team-high 21 points, while senor Mailie Bowers was the catalyst who helped spark the turnaround and scored 17.

HMB wins two team titles in one day
While one portion of the Lady Cougars was in Cupertino to win the Dusty Girls Tournament team championship, another group from HMB’s deep roster traveled to Sequoia High School to take first place with 114 points in the Madden Memorial Tournament. Lucy Sarabia and Leonor Sarabia proved a tough sister act, each taking individual titles. Socorro Aguilar (235s); Nancy Saaverda (1389s); Sandra Sanchez (128s); Carina Sanchez (123s); and Yessenia Covarrubiass (103s) each took second place medals.
