Hailey Truong, Notre Dame-Belmont softball. The four-year varsity player wrapped up her high school career against Moreau Catholic in the CIF Northern California Division V semifinals, a 7-3 Tigers’ loss. Hitting in the leadoff spot, Truong went 2 for 3, with a hustle double, a triple and a run scored.
Jack Freehill and Reid Plamondon, Menlo School baseball. The Knights reached the CIF Northern California finals for the third straight year, with Freehill and Plamondon starring every step of the way. Freehill, an NCAA Division I commit to Lou Gehrig’s alma mater Columbia University, went 3 for 8 with a double and four RBIs through the tournament, while also putting on a show at the shortstop position. With the strong finish, the left-handed hitting senior finished the year with a career-high .379 average. Plamondon, a sophomore, pitched in all three Nor Cal games, including a win in last Tuesday’s 6-4 win over James Logan-Union City. The big right-hander allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits over nine innings in his three relief appearances.
Kai Kung, Half Moon Bay baseball. The recent graduate capped his high school career in fine fashion, helping carry the Cougars to the CIF Northern California Division IV championship. In a pair of starts last week — the Nor Cal opener against Sonoma Valley and Livermore the championship game — Kung got the win in each game, pitching the opening five innings. Against Sonoma Valley, Kung gave up three hits with seven strikeouts and no walks. Against Livermore, he again allowed only three hits, with six strikeouts and three walks. Kung finished the season with 23 1/3 scoreless innings.
