Ryan Fitzpatrick, Nueva School boys’ cross country. The county’s top individual placer in any race at the 38th CIF State Cross Country Championships, Fitzpatrick claimed third place in the boys’ Division V race with a time of 15 minutes, 8.3 seconds. The senior’s podium spot, in his last official varsity cross country race, makes him the highest state placer in program history, better Jake Lange’s 2016 performance when he took seventh place in Division V.

Jordin Lee, Summit Shasta girls’ basketball. The freshman point guard had a pair of 14-point games as the Black Bears went 1-1 to open the season. In a 47-39 season-opening win over Capuchino, Lee shared team-high scoring honors with 14. She had 14 more in the Black Bears’ 57-40 loss to San Mateo.
