Alpine 9, San Carlos 8
Alpine rallied for seven runs in the third inning, and it was just enough to hold up in an elimination game against San Carlos at District Field.
Connor Murphy had a two-run double, Ryan Cohen singled home a run, Brandon Pyle tripled home Cohen, Gavin Arditi had an RBI single and Rhys Adam doubled home two more runs in the big inning. Alpine totaled 10 hits on the night, with two apiece from Murphy, Cohen and Arditi.
San Carlos made some noise of its own, though, and scored two in the fourth and four in the fifth, before Matty Weisman drilled a solo home run to center in the sixth to close it to 9-8. Alpine reliever Brandon Pyle bounced back to induce a groundout to Murphy at third base for the final out of the game.
Cohen earned the win as Alpine’s starter, allowing three runs (one earned) on three hits over three innings of work. Pyle pitched the final three innings in relief. Starting pitcher Gino Flores and relievers Easton Trott and Dom Rhein pitched for San Carlos. At the plate, Flores led all hitters with a 3-for-3 night, tabbing a double, a triple and a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored.
With the win, Alpine advances through the elimination bracket to face Belmont-Redwood Shores, Wednesday, at 3 p.m.
In other action: Hillsborough won 3-2 over Palo Alto in an elimination game.
