Contra Costa County authorities say a mother shot her teenage son to death at a popular state park before turning the gun on herself.

Sheriff’s Captain Sheriff’s Daniel Terry says investigators found a suicide note at the Walnut Creek home shared by 51-year-old Judith Williams and her son, 16-year-old Adam Williams. Their bodies were found Friday night at a lookout point at Mt. Diablo State Park near Clayton.

Terry says the gun used in the shootings was registered to Judith Williams.

Adam would have been a junior at Las Lomas High School this fall. His father, Jim Williams, told the Contra Costa Times that his ex-wife had suffered severe financial setbacks recently.
