Transgender Day of Remembrance

San Mateo County Supervisor Dave Pine joins members and supporters of the transgender community gathered in Redwood City for the raising of the transgender flag, one of many events in the county to remember those that have been lost to violence. The Transgender Day of Remembrance was established in 1999 by Gwendolyn Ann Smith, a transgender activist, to memorialize the murder of Rita Hester in Allston, Mass. Other events Wednesday took place at Courthouse Square and the downtown library.
