EAST PALO ALTO — A suspected East Palo Alto gang member is behind bars after state drug agents say they found millions of dollars worth of heroin hidden in his car.

California Attorney General Jerry Brown says agents with the state Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement found at least 70 pounds of heroin when they searched the car of Adam Alfonso Herrera in East Palo Alto on Tuesday.

Brown estimates the street value of the heroin would have been at least $7 million.

The 27-year-old Herrera was booked on suspicion for heroin for sale. His bail was set at $5 million. Investigators say Herrera is associated with a violent East Palo Alto gang that has ties to Mexican drug-trafficking organizations.
