An 18-year-old man was fatally shot in East Palo Alto Wednesday afternoon, becoming the city’s fifth homicide victim this year, a police captain said.

The shooting was reported at 12:38 p.m. at Bay Road and Laurel Avenue, East Palo Alto police Capt. Carl Estelle said.

Responding officers found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Estelle said.

Several people were gathered at the scene at the time of the shooting, and told police a green vehicle was seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed, according to Estelle.

No suspects had been arrested as of 3:20 p.m., he said.

Last year, East Palo Alto recorded five homicides, the city’s lowest homicide total for the past decade, Estelle said.
