Hillsborough City Elementary School District Board President Lynne Esselstein announced the appointment of community volunteer Gilbert Wai to the five-person Board of Trustees.
Wai has been appointed to serve on the board until the next regularly scheduled school board election, which will be in November 2015. He fills the recent vacancy created by Trustee Kaarin Hardy’s impending international relocation.
“It is with great pleasure that we welcome Gilbert Wai as the newest Trustee for the Hillsborough City Schools,” Esselstein said in a prepared statement. “Mr. Wai brings a wealth of experience as a community leader, parent volunteer and high-technology professional. His student-centered emphasis on 21st Century skills for all students and his commitment to high-quality public education make him the ideal candidate to help steward our schools at this important time.”
Wai has served in numerous leadership and volunteer positions in the schools and with partner organizations, including on the Associated Parents Group, the Hillsborough Schools Foundation, the West School Site Council and the 2012 Citizens’ Financial Review Commission, which recommended extending the town parcel tax.
