San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department’s Community Emergency Response Team

Members of the San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department’s Community Emergency Response Team practice using a fire extinguisher on Saturday, March 23. This is the first graduating CERT class since the cities of San Mateo, Belmont and Foster City officially merged their fire departments to create the new consolidated department earlier this year. Participants of the nine-session CERT program learned about earthquake preparedness, basic first aid, how to use a fire extinguisher, how to rescue trapped victims and other skills that will make their communities more resilient during a disaster.
