California Coastal Cleanup Day

Youth volunteers help collect trash during last year’s annual Bayfront Cleanup in the city of San Mateo. This Saturday, Sept. 21, marks the 35th annual event, a local contribution to the California Coastal Cleanup Day. The statewide volunteer event helps keep plastics and waste out of California’s waterways. Last year, more than 900 volunteers gathered in San Mateo to remove 200 pounds of waste from the San Francisco Bay shoreline, including 7,400 cigarette butts.
