2021 Left Coast Annual at Sanchez Art Center

Sanchez Art Center, Pacifica—Opening Friday, April 9, is the 2021 Left Coast Annual Exhibition. Juror Christine Koppes, Curator and Director of Public Programs at the Institute of Contemporary Art San José, selected 56 visually intriguing works in a variety of media from among 800 entries submitted by artists on the left coast (Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon, and Washington). The resulting exhibition conveys “important conversations about social change, identity, and the COVID-19 pandemic,” says Koppes, and “reflects on our interconnectedness even in a time of isolation.” Koppes will talk about her experience, and artists in the show will take part in a virtual Gallery Walk, on Zoom at 3:00 pm on Sunday, May 16. A link to pre-register for the talk will be available on the Sanchez Art Center website and via emails. Showing concurrently is the 2020 LCA Awards Exhibition, featuring work by Pilar Agüero-Esparza and Mark Seely, who were selected by 2020 juror Carin Adams, Curator of Art at the Oakland Museum of California. Both shows will open on Friday, April 9, at 1 pm (no evening opening reception), with gallery hours Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 1–5 pm, through Sunday, May 16. Safety protocols for the health and well-being of visitors, volunteers, and staff include face masks, physical distancing, and limited numbers of people in the galleries.
