The Cannes Film Festival’s top honor on Saturday went for the second time to the Romanian director of “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days.” This year’s edition of the festival saw few films breakout but “Fjord” found wide admiration for its engrossing tale of what Mungiu called “left-wing fundamentalism.” The film stars Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve as Romanian Evangelicals who move to Norway, but soon after have their children taken from them by child services for spanking them.

Stephen Colbert is back on TV on community access in Michigan along with rocker Jack White

Fresh off ending his national broadcast show on CBS, Stephen Colbert showed up on community access television in southeast Michigan. Exactly 24 hours after the last episode of “The Late Show” was broadcast, Colbert appeared on an episode of “Only in Monroe.” Colbert was joined by Michigan native Jack White. Colbert introduced the famed musician as his “volunteer music director. Other guests included rapper Eminem, who was raised in Detroit, actors Jeff Daniels and Steve Buscemi and comedian Byron Allen, who will be hosting “Comics Unleashed” that is replacing Colbert’s canceled “Late Show.” It wasn't clear when or where the show was taped.

Britney Spears was 'confrontational' and 'flamboyant' but tested low for alcohol during DUI stop

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Britney Spears refused to exit her BMW for about 10 minutes during a DUI arrest in March. When she did, she smelled of alcohol and appeared drunk. However breath tests showed she a lower blood alcohol content than the level where a person is presumed drunk. That's according to a police report and dashcam video obtained Friday. Officers found in her purse a bottle of Adderall that was not prescribed to her. A representative for the pop superstar did not immediately respond Friday. Spears has pleaded guilty to reckless driving involving alcohol and drugs. She checked into rehab soon after and avoided more jail time.

The trolls come indoors as a Danish recycling artist stages his first museum exhibit

ISHØJ, Denmark (AP) — For more than a decade, Danish recycling artist Thomas Dambo has scattered wooden troll sculptures around the world. He has created almost 200 in 19 countries. Now the poet and former hip-hop artist is now bringing a collection of fairy tale-inspired creations in from the cold for his first-ever museum exhibit. “The Garbage Man,” at the Arken Museum of Contemporary Art on the outskirts of Copenhagen tells the story of a group of mischievous trolls who secretly move into the museum, take it over and redesign it. The exhibit opens Sunday and will be on show until Nov. 29.

Scott Remer, the only full-time spelling bee coach, charges $180 an hour. Champs say he's worth it

Scott Remer is the country's only full-time, professional coach for kids competing in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. The 32-year-old Remer has coached five national champions, including two of the last three. Remer claims 34 spellers as his students this year and has worked with no fewer than 29 during each of the past four bees. He charges up to $180 for an hourlong private lesson. And if spellers finish in the top 10 and earn a cash prize, he receives up to 10% of their winnings. Many spellers who worked with Remer praise his coaching, but some say he can be brusque and demanding.

Matthew Perry's family trusted his assistant to help keep him sober. He instead helped him overdose

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Matthew Perry's assistant is set to become the last defendant sentenced in the investigation of the drug death of the “Friends” star. Perry's family wrote letters to the judge saying they had known Kenneth Iwamasa for decades. They were pleased when the actor hired him because they trusted him to help Perry's sobriety. But instead, Iwamasa helped Perry get and inject the ketamine that would lead to his death in 2023. Iwamasa eventually pleaded guilty and become the most important witness in the case that led to five indictments. His lawyers say he wasn't in a position to say no to Perry. He'll be sentenced Wednesday.

‘It Takes Two’ rapper Rob Base, who helped bring hip-hop mainstream, dies at 59

NEW YORK (AP) — Rapper Rob Base has died after a battle with cancer. He was 59. His team shared the news of his death on his Instagram page. Base was one half of the Harlem hip-hop duo Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock. The duo was best known for the 1988 hit “It Takes Two,” a blend of hip-hop and house music that helped bring the genres into the mainstream. DJ E-Z Rock died in 2014 at age 46 of complications from diabetes. The two met as fifth grade students in Harlem. Their song “It Takes Two” has been certified platinum.
