"The city of East Palo Alto must pay Palo Alto-based landlord Page Mill Properties $472,000 in attorneys' fees after losing two court judgments, San Mateo County Superior Court Judge Beth Labson Freeman ruled last week."

Let's keep in mind that rent control is a scourge to EPA and other communities trying to make private investors responsible for building and maintaining affordable housing in a community. Market forces should dictate fair market value for housing.

There is a lot of vacant housing in Detroit and many other communities throughout the nation and if you want affordable housing, move to where it is. It will raise the standards of the communities and as the population grows, so will businesses over time if you are motivated to being employed and starting businesses from scratch through a Federal government small business loan.

Now, EPA, pay up and do not expect a government bailout from the taxpayers. They have their own families to house and feed...! The EPA council and staff and their legal counsel brought this on themselves, not once, but twice, with their legal pursuits that they chose not to appeal. It is now affordable to settle so as to avoid paying interest on the principle.

Page Mill Properties, stick to the decision and don't let EPA off the hook. You earned this favorable decision. The only way a government or business gets it, is to hold them accountable for their bad decisions.

The 3 decades of unprofitable business by the Detroit 3 auto manufactures, who owe billions, should not be bailed out and most of the financial institutions like AIG who asked for an infusion of billions should have been left wanting and forced into bankruptcy and let the market shake out.

If that means EPA may have to disincorporate or file for bankruptcy as they have an underfunded base, so be it. SMC has had to continue to provide law enforcement support because they cannot reorder residents (citizens and illegal immigrants) from criminal activity or control their gangs.
