Many people Google their own names or the names of friends and family and are often disappointed in what they find. Some of these people will call or e-mail us to request we remove a story from the Web because it brings back bad memories, or it is a write-up of a crime they are alleged to have committed.
Some family members have requested we remove obituaries of loved ones because it makes them sad even though it was the family that sent us the obituary information.
Some people ask that we remove stories about their experience in the court system since it might ruin their chances with a girlfriend or a job.
For the record, it is the Daily Journal's policy not to remove stories from its Web site as it is part of the public record. It's interesting, however, how many people want to erase their past and the difficulty they encounter because of the World Wide Web.
