For most people, the holidays is a time to find the perfect gift for loved ones and spend time with family. That's the case for reporters and editors too, but there is an issue with sometimes not having the time off for it since we don't get many days off.
Since the people we cover sometimes take time off, sometimes it is difficult to find relevant and interesting stories. What that means is that we have more stories than usual about nonprofits and holiday food and toy drives. Giving this year seems to be down and a story that appeared about that trend in the Monday edition seemed to spark some interest, according to representatives from the Samaritan House.
So even though most reporters prefer hard-boiled news, there is some good that comes out of the slow time — it is the season of giving.
