It was with great sadness that we all learned about the recent death of Richard Batman. He took photos for our sports pages and was a great presence.
The way he captured the action on the field and on the court was amazing.
But what was most amazing about Richard was his attitude. He was always cheerful and genuinely interested in doing whatever he was doing at the time.
If you didn't know him, you may not get it. But if you did, you definitely did.
He was a great man and will be sorely missed.

Richard was my cousin Karen's husband and he was a good guy. I always liked to just chat with him. Years ago when we all fancied ourselves wine experts due to trips to the Napa and Sonoma Valley I would try to bring a bottle of wine that he might like to try at the family gatherings. He enjoyed good food and drink and West Virginia football. I remember one year they gave all of the aunts and uncles a bowl to hold popcorn in the school colors along with other items for a good fan to use while watching some bowl game. I think my parents used it for dog food in later years.
