From that which I have heard--the property owners to the North of Peninsula Avenue--from Hwy 101 West--were not notified by Caltrans that there was a study of different forms of on and off ramps from 101 at Peninsula Avenue--ongoing for several years--that would effect their entire residential neighborhood--in both cities--as well as the owners of the residences to the South of Peninsula Avenue on the San Mateo side. Caltrans merely dropped the completed study into their laps and said they were considering the three or four plans for the ramps at the Peninsula Ave overpass. Not one, to my knowledge, included incorporating the vacant land to the East of 101--which would not disturb the WS residential to a major degree--adjacent and parallel and with room for more than 2 lanes from Broadway to Peninsula Ave, and additional lanes bordering the golf course-- south from Peninsula Ave to at least the southern end of the golf course. It would be utilizing a present section of Old Bayshore that is not well utilized together with better utilizing the area around the southerly end of Airport Blvd and easterly end of Peninsula Ave. Perhaps the cities could work with the developers of the commercial properties on the East of 101 (and North of Peninsula) and the old drive-in site to better that area's future development. It would be tragic if Caltrans was permitted to damage the classic residential nature of the areas to the West of 101 any further. Kathryn

You are correct Kathryn. No one to the north or south of Peninsula Ave.
were told anything at all about a study. I have always kept up on local developments (drive in development, Poplar Ave. improvements) this one was slipped in somehow without anyone knowing.

We were not informed until April. Back in February they were talking about possibly adding a southbound ramp but did not make it clear to the residents regarding the approved widening portion of the overpass.

When residents brought up the fact, why not use the land to the east of the overpass, Mr. Larry Patterson of the San Mateo Public Works Dept. said it would be way too expensive. Well, what do they expect to give people for their homes? Will these people be able to buy another home in San Mateo or Burlingame? I wonder about that comment he made!
