this may not be the proper forum but I recently read something that causes me great concern..... that an elected public official actually thinks this would be legal:
Does this bother anyone else?

Speaking about SF‚s new law requiring gun owners to
keep their handguns locked up, S.F. District Attorney
Kamala Harris said,

"Just because you legally possess a gun in the
sanctity of your locked home doesn't mean that we're
not going to walk into that home and check to see if
you're being responsible and safe in the way that you
conduct your affairs,"

What do you expect? WIth the war on drugs, and the war on terrorism, we have seen our rights slowly slip away to the point where government officials think it's ok to just burst into your home and inspect.

Why not? You no longer have rights.

Kamala Harris forgets that she would need a search warrant, reasonable belief a crime is being committed or the owner's permission to enter the residence. Seems to me she has a much larger issues in San Francisco to worry about...

now they want to ban the gun show at the Cow Palace.

they admit that they have no evidence of wrongdoing, but they want to ban it anyway.

I've never been to the Cow Palace show. I went to the gun show once at San Mateo fairgrounds, what's the big deal? If you want to buy a gun there it's the same paperwork, background check, same waiting period as if you go to a regular gun store.

I don't know what the big draw is but if people want to attend a gun show, why ban it just because 'they' don't like guns?

a gun is an inanimate object; it's neither 'good' nor 'bad'..... A pit bull however, now that's another story.

Of course they should ban the gun shows at the Cow Palace, and everywhere else. We all know that it's a lot easier to buy guns at gun shows than at gun shops. Guns have one purpose: to kill. There is no reason for the average citizen to own a handgun.

I think we should think very seriously before supporting bans on anything. before we wake up one morning and find that we have encouraged those who know whats good for everyone to ban much too much.

I'm also concerned about this one. It's clearly being used as a ploy by the politicians involved to "appear to be doing something" about urban violence.

Problem is, this would only regulate law-abiding, responsible gun owners. It will do little to keep guns out of the hands of criminals.

I'd also like to respond to one of the above postings, that stated "guns are meant to kill". Only criminals buy a gun with the "intent" of hurting someone. Most guns are purchased and used for recreational target shooting or for home defense. Most guns purchased for home defense are never fired and recreational shooters are required to exhibit good safety practices.

More people are assualted / injured every day with knives than with guns. Should we ban kitchen knives?

This is an emotionally charged issue that really needs some logic applied to all the rhetoric.

I agree; but I don't understand the 'emotion'. It's an inanimate object, as is a car or a screwdriver.

All to PC with no accountability. Once the 'law' is passed, 'they' are done and
go back to their life thinking the issue 'solved' and society in good hands.

Blame the in-animate object. Bad gun, you shouldn't have killed...

Isn't it already illegal to kill? Makes no matter with what. A gun does make it
easier and more efficient, but what the heck, killing is killing, which is illegal, right?
Toss more laws making it even more illegal won't stop them, right?

We punish the person, not the gun/kinfe/bat/poison/etc right?

Maybe the emotional, spur of the moment killing, but there is a law on the
books to have guns either locked up or have trigger guards to prevent this, or
at least slow them down so that they will/might time to think about it.

But, wait a second, the more laws there are on same/similar topics gives a
good defense lawyer more ammo to work against the very laws themselves.

If someone wants to kill, they will find a way to do so. The guy who shot
up 101 Calif that spurned many new guns laws in California, knew it was
illegal to kill, illegal to own the guns he had...so he went out of state to buy
them (which is also illegal). Did any of those existing laws prevent his killings?

Will another law heaped on top of those existing laws prevent his type from
killing again? Nope, just makes a bit harder to do so.

Just look at reports of premeditated killings and all were ALREADY illegal.

What will another law do?
