Why are there so few drive throughs in the city of San Mateo?

It seems that there are drive through McDonalds and In N Outs everywhere, but in San Mateo, we have a Jack In The Box, and a KFC, right across the street from each other.

I have to drive to Belmont to get a McDonald's hamburger, or Redwood City for a drive through hot dog. San Carlos has a drive through Taco Bell.

Is there some kind of strange zoning law around here that prohibits drive throughs?

I would guess that drive throughs take up a heck of a lot of space for a fast food joint, and with the cost of R.E. around these parts, it might not make it $$ possible for fast food chains to sell their crappy 50 cent food while paying so much rent each month.

Yeah, but they are in cities all around San Mateo. Just seemingly not in San Mateo.

You have a point there.

I've never heard of any ordinance against drive thru's, but this is San Mateo, man. I wouldn't be surprised if it's some throw-in rule to the anti-skyscraper thing they have going.

That said, I can't say I'm sorry that there isn't more drive thru's.

Yeah, but they are in cities all around San Mateo. Just seemingly not in San Mateo.

Yes, but Ben Frank's is worth the drive.

I found couple in downtown San Mateo!

There is a KFC and a Jack in the box off Third Ave.

Ben Franks apparently just had a change in ownership. Slightly new menu.

Oh no! Well, as long as they still use Evergood brand dogs and links, it should be ok.

This conundrum, could just be a strange zoning law, one agreed upon by the city council while no one was looking?
Drive throughs do take up valuable space that could be used for affordable housing?
Now you have to drive to a city that will ban smoking, so if you smoke in your car after wolfing down some crappy 50 cent food, you will be arrested.
Yes, the anti drive-thru (sorry got tired of typing the long spell version) must be attached to the anti-skyscraper ordinance for the downtown area only.
It does however allow for height restriction variations to move smoothly thru the city planning and council voting for Bay Meadows Phase II.
Those drive-thru's you all found off Third Ave. will soon become eminent domain property for city and developers use only, they only survive today due to some sort of grandfather clause (why is that not called a grandmother clause)? Grandmother never made any long term shady deals did she?
OH, NO! Please do not say that my beloved Ben Franks has been the victim of a hostile take over.
OK, heres the good news, all of you drive-thru fast food junkies can rest assured that some sort of affordable gourmet fast food drive-thru will become
an intregal part of Bay Meadows Phase II.
In fact I myself ( I am searching for venture capital investor's here) will be mailing soon an application for a permit to build a drive-thru grocery store located at Bay Meadows Phase II. Staples and Booze and Smokes only, well
maybe some micro-waved fast food. I will call it "THE RACE TRACK".
My slogan will be "Race In, Race Out, Race On"
Pretty good? No? Any investors?
Good Night San Mateo, any midnight meeting being held by your new council tonight?

Actually was quite somber, have you no scent of humor?
Maybe a short drive to a drive-thru will help?
