Why don't we put Bonds on waivers just to see if there's even any interest in him? This season is over. Even if we win the division, we're not going anywhere in the playoffs.

Why would they do that now? He continues to bring fans to the park.
There are still 50 games left and they are what 4.5 out, give me a break, don't give up just yet. I am not a die hard by any means, just optimistic.
Barry is a free agent at end of year I doubt he will get a huge offer from any others, so the Giants should be able to re-sign him inexpensivley then or just let him go. If he is healthy enough to play next year and continue to persue the record I'm sure he would rather stay a Giant and the Giants would rather have him even as a part time player/pinch hitter.
The potential? use of STERIODS is another issue that might deserve some dialog? If 1900 persons play pro ball and 1500 use vitamin B-12 injections on a monthly basis due to a possible deficiency of a needed vitamin and it increases and/or enhances energy, eye sight, hand eye coordination and/or bat speed. Should it be banned?
If an athlete is diabetic and needs insulin shots daily, even though those shots enhance their performance, should they be banned.
Alcolhol and the ever questionable ingredients of the hot-dog have always been abused by many of our historical/hall of fame baseball players.
So where do we go from here?

I'm not saying to put him on waivers because of his various controversies. I'm saying put him on waivers to see waht we can get back in return. The season's done. I don't care how bad the NL West is -- it's over. Why not see if we can start rebuilding NOW so that we have some chance of success next year or the following. Look at every other team in our division. Their cupboards are full of young exciting prospects who are now getting reps at the major league level. What do we have? The oldest outfield in the history of baseball. Our exciting up and coming players are... Sweeney? Niekro? Linden? Sure, Matt Cain has a bright future.

Now is the time while Barry still has some draw power to get something in return. AND we can also free up some dollars to sign some bad-a** free agents while we're at it.

I agree. Let's get a couple pitchers and clutch hitters in exchange for Bonds. He is not worth the money anymore.

OK, I believe it might just be the correct thing to do, considering a bummed knee'ed outfielder who at his age is losing eye sight and bat speed, but could the Giants possibly get a late season trade to an American League contender.
Rather than just place him on waivers?
Would the Red Sox and/or Yankee fans embrace a player with 723 home runs?
Well forget the SOX they already have Ortiz, but hey couldn't they platoon as DH? Who the heck is the Yankee's DH?

Since the trade dedline is passed, all players must first be placed on waivers. Recently, the Braves put their superstar Andrue Jones on waivers just to see what kind of interest other teams had in him. They weren't necessarily gonna even trade him, but they were able to collect info about his worth.

Sabean should do the same for the Giants. It'll of course tick off his highness, but who cares? It's business!

May be time to talk some about the NEENERS, but since I do feel dumb for not understanding the trade deadline/waiver issue.
My point is if Barry is a free agent at season end would he be a value added aquisition and for what teams at this point in the season and/or next?
All alegations aside the man has played baseball and I for one would like to see him hit his last home run into the BAY and no where else!

Thank you Jerry.
All of that info on the link continued to help me make more sense of the non-sensical baseball trade/waiver rules.
Now I am even more confused, how about you-all?
I still hope Barry stays with S.F. and pounds His last one out into the BAY! (or maybe BALCO).
After he his inducted into the Hall of Fame, should he get a statue next to Willie?
SPEAKING OF SPORTS!
So does anyone out there remember the "Glory Days of ROLLER DERBY"
Have you heard about Lost in the Fog and his current issues concerning a cancer in his spleen? Any thoughts?
Barbaro and his continued rehabilitation?
Bay Meadows and Horse Racing in general?
