I ,too ,want to thank all of the men who have come forward to date. The men I know who have spoken to the cops all say that what they feel is a good deal of relief after keeping what happened to them a secret all these years. They wanted me to tell others out there who have not come forward that they see now that keeping the secret to themselves was destroying their souls.

So, yes, for any of you who are on the fence about coming forward, I hope you will see that there is NO downside to doing so. Your names will not be made public, and you are helping a greater cause. Every time a pedophile is arrested and goes to jail, it has to give other pedophiles out there pause. And one of the many tragic ironies in the Ayres case is that Ayres himself was a sex abuse evaluator for the San Mateo courts - for years ! Unbelievable. . AND he was on a committee at the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry that wrote the guidelines for other professionals on how to detect sexual abuse in kids ! He was President there in the 1990s- wonder how that organization feels now about that honor they gave him ..... Interesting that they haven't put out any statement about it.

That's why more victims need to come forward. I am beginning to wonder: what boy who saw Ayres wasn't molested ? Also, Ayres had a high turnover- after being molested, some boys just refused to go back to him. That seems like a red flag to me. Why didn't anyone - the judges, juvenile defense attorneys, Hillcrest, and Childrens' Services notice this ?

If there are any victims out there who read this forum who have not yet gone to the authorities because of fear, shame, or because your parents don't want you to rock the boat and "sully" the family name (that's one reason a victim told me he hasn't come forward- his mother doesn't want him to ! She thinks it will embarrass the family ! ), or if there are parents reading this who are too afraid to ask their kids if Ayres did anything to them - then please send me a private message here. I can give you more than a few good reasons as to why it is imperative that victims come forward. I know several victims and believe me, they have all felt relief after going to the authorities.

It's important for Ayres' now-grown child victims not to stay silent. The understandable feelings of shame and guilt felt by Ayres' victims have served as protection to Ayres in what was essentially a four-decade-long crime spree of pedophilic sexual assaults on boys.

If you or someone you know has any experience of Ayres' "physical exams" it is important that you contact the San Mateo Police and let them know what happened, however many years ago.

Ayres has exploited the system for long enough, please don't let him game the system again! Give the police all the evidence (your testimony) they need in this case.

Some of Ayres' "physicals" involved just stripping nude for him, others were intimate exams of boys' genitals that might have seemed appropriate for a pediatrician or a doctor more directly concerned with a patient's physiology, and other "exams" included Ayres fondling and masturbating his patient and, although maybe not evident to a small child, are clearly sexual assaults.

None of these "exams" were medically necessary. All of them were done purely because Ayres gets his jollies that way.

The court needs to see the whole spectrum of Ayres' behavior with his child patients.

Not all of these exams may have been crimes, but they are all aspects of Ayres' predatory behavior, and need to be reported. Ayres is a smart pedophile, and he would choose and "groom" victims. This is really why I think he's such a reprehensible offender - he would seek out the most vulnerable kids, gaining thier trust (he reportedly bought gifts for boys he was abusing) and seeing just how far he could go with them, before deciding the extent to which he would sexually assault them.

Ayres and his lawyer Doron Weinberg will fight like snakes backed into a corner - which they are. Weinberg is challenging the legality of the search warrant on Ayres' files, while at the same time maintaining that Ayres is innocent and will vindicate himself and "resurrect his reputation" (although I don't think the best way to resurrect your reputation is to try to get the testimony against you thrown out on a legal technicality)

The thing is, when the case goes to trial, Weinberg will try to create as much confusion and doubt about the extent of his client's dubious "exams" and the reliability of the memories of Ayres' accusers. For this reason its important that the court be presented with the clearest and most complete picture of Ayres' behavior with boy patients that's possible.

This matter is a bigger thing than just what happened to one person - if that person is you or someone you know.

Ayres has been abusing his position of trust in this community for many years. He's grown fat and prosperous enough to mount an elaborate, clever defense that no similar criminal of average means would be able to do.

Please! Anybody with personal experiences with Ayres to relate, anything with evidentiary value, please don't let the other victims of this man down! Please call the San Mateo Police and report what happened to you. Don't let Ayres' deep-pocket dollars buy him out of the consequences of his behavior, which has harmed dozens and very possibly hundreds of kids!

Zush - thanks for making that impassioned plea.

I can't help wondering if the abuse in some instances in the Ayres case was even worse than what you described or we have seen described in the papers .... I know that police departments in other cities who have investigated these sorts of allegations, have found that the perpetrator who has gotten away with it for so many years eventually becomes emboldened and that he will start trying to "go further" with kids. I think there is a good chance of it here... I am sure that some kids went to Ayres having already been molested by other adults, and that Ayres would see these kids as a golden opportunity to abuse them further. Just a hunch....

The word out there is that the police believe that quite a few of the 800 former patients of Ayres who told them that nothing happened to them did in fact have something happen to them. We know how difficult it is for anyone to come forward - especially if you are younger. That is why parents need to go back and question their kids closely about this. If they are hiding something from you, they will give you hints... they won't look you in the eye, or shut down or change the subject.

I read that the average age for a victim to come forward is 42. That's far too late ! If there are any victims and/or their parents reading this forum, we are asking that you go to the police and help them to build the strongest case possible against Ayres....

I heard one victim say that he'd been drugged.

Shadow - Do you mean Ayres purposefully drugged up the victim so that he could then molest him and he wouldn't remember too much ? How much was he drugged ? I am sure that the victim doesn't want to give away too much info that would identify him, but I was wondering if you could elaborate a little bit, so that we might help others who might have experienced something similar but have not yet come forward.

Yes my friend and I met at a place where teenagers were sent who were having trouble with school, parents, and other issues common during the adolescent years.

Most people don't like to talk about that stuff but Guess What, We're talking about it !

We were all drugged and despite that, I remember most of it quite clearly even though it has been nearly forty years.

Our blood levels were never monitored for safe levels of the drugs and eventually we adapted to being on such strong doses of medication, but at first it was awful. It was awful the whole time but it was especially difficult at first.

If we refused the medication, they would tie us down and pour it down our throats, or give an injection, if necessary. The ultimate punishment was a series of shock treatments although I don't remember anybody in my inner circle actually having those. Plenty of people did though, and I heard later that they tried to talk my parents into it but they refused. For that I am thankful.

I was during that time that my friend who was Ayres patient joined us. He was drugged too. I remember Ayres came to visit often and was bearing gifts...

Like Santa Clause

only he wasn't as fat then.

It is brave of you to speak on this. What does your friend who saw Dr. Ayres say about this now ?

My friend tells me that he was heavily drugged.

He told me that it was an unhappy time and he remembers that we both had it rough there.

What you describe would never be allowed today !

I wonder just how many of Ayres patients were prescribed these drugs.
