There has been a lot of so-called basketball experts questioning whether the San Antonio Spurs are a dynasty. When you win four championships in nine years, as the Spurs are about to do, that qualfies as a dynasty. To argue otherwise shows glue-sniffing is alive and well in this country. Since 1999, San Antonio has the best winning percentage in the Association, at 71 percent. The Spurs are the model organization, not just in the NBA, but perhaps all of sports. They get things done in a classy way, the right way. Unlike the Lakers' teams that won three straight titles earlier this decade, the Spurs didn't need help from the referees to start their dynastic run.
The Daily Journal's esteemed Publisher, Jerry Lee, is a big-time and proud SoCal fan. But even he can't deny there was something shady going on in Game 6 of the 2002 Western Conference Finals between the Lakers and Sacramento Kings. Sacramento had a 3-2 series lead and was about to close things out in L.A. when the three stooges in zebra outfits decided to award the Lakers 24 free throws in the fourth quarter — yes, 24 in one quarter!@#$%^& — which was more than the Kings had in the entire game. Yeah, nothing shady there. The Spurs are a model organization, while the Lakers, with super brat Kobe Bryant, have become the joke of the league.
