During an interview with Dennis Miller Tuesday, the comedian/radio talk show host accused me of being a Democrat since I asked about his support of Rudy Giuliani. Miller was rude throughout the interview and I ended up cutting it short and deciding not to do a story about his upcoming show at the Fox Theatre.
The day before, I was accused of being a Republican by someone from the Democratic Central Committee because we didn't get an item in the calendar about an upcoming screening of "An Inconvenient Truth."
So which one is it? Neither. The Daily Journal is politically moderate and its editor does not belong to a political party. Just in case anyone wanted to know.
What's interesting about not having a political party is that Republicans always think you are really a Democrat and Democrats always think you are really a Republican.
And about Miller, talking to him was disappointing since I've always been a fan of his work. Maybe he just doesn't like the press or didn't want to be bothered talking to a small newspaper.

Exactly what did you ask Dennis Miller about his support of Giuliani?

I joked that Giuliani is considered a Democrat by some conservatives and asked him how he planned on covering the election.

I caught Dennis Miller's show when it played in the South County several months ago. He was entertaining while being both opinionated and funny. The basis of his act is to use a smart-alec "jerk" approach to exposing social issues in a different way. His style can make some people uncomfortable in a political-correct steeped region such as ours. I did notice many in the crowd I was at seemingly suffering with every word he uttered. So be it.

He may have been "rude" and all those other things you mention but your comments point out a prime problem with the press: How can you fight the press/media when they control the words that are published in the end?

I am sure that Dennis Miller has had his fill of attack pieces since he takes a decidedly anti-muslim fanatic/extremists position. And his comment, if that's what it was, about you being a democrat at least has some validity when you consider that the print media in this Country is something like 80 % democratic in political leanings. I'm sure you wouldn't argue that it's closer to 80% Republican in nature. So his swipe at you may actually have been a generic one that works pretty well overall.

Yes Roscoe, but his comment was based on an assumption and a generalization. I like Miller's comedy and his belief in protecting the country.
He really didn't give the interview a chance.
